Game Three Is Tonight and I Had to Tell Somebody

Game Three is tonight, and I have been useless since lunch. I keep refreshing the odds, texting people who didn't ask, and now I'm posting it here because I can't be the only one this wound up. Puck drops at 8 p.m. ET in Las Vegas, Golden Knights on home ice, the series tied — and I genuinely don't know how I'm getting anything done before then.

Here's why I can't look away. Carolina came into this final at 12-1. Twelve and one. Their only stumble was Game 1 against Montreal off a long layoff, and since then they've just steamrolled — plus-21 on the goal differential, 42 scored against 21 allowed. That's not a hot streak. That's a team playing a different sport than everyone they meet.

And yet I'm not sold it's a coronation, because Vegas does not read the script. Tortorella took over as interim coach and the Knights just kept punching, riding a 58-38 goal edge of their own. These are the guys who opened the final by walking into a hostile building and erasing a multi-goal lead on the road — the first team ever to do that in a Cup Final opener. You tell a team like that they're underdogs and they smile.

The books see it the way my gut does: Carolina, but barely. Last I looked the Hurricanes sat around -145 on BetMGM, -154 on FanDuel, -155 on DraftKings — a favorite, sure, but the kind of line that admits nobody actually knows. That razor-thin number is exactly why I'm posting this instead of watching quietly. A blowout you forget. A coin-flip you remember.

So that's the pitch. Carolina's the better team on paper, and Vegas is the team that keeps tearing the paper up. Tied series, home ice, 8 o'clock. If you've got nothing on tonight, this is the thing — I'll be the one who can't sit down.
